KATHMANDU, More than one million foreign tourists entered Nepal within a single year, according to data released by the Department of Immigration।
Immigration records show that 1,015,378 foreign tourists arrived in Nepal in 2015, while 982,561 foreign nationals departed the country during the same period.
Most foreign nationals visit Nepal primarily for tourism purposes. The Department of Immigration issues 10 different categories of visas to foreign citizens, including tourist, labor, study, and other visa types.
The data also reveals a significant outflow of Nepali citizens. In the same year, more than 1.5 million Nepalis traveled abroad, mainly for foreign employment and educational opportunities.
These figures highlight Nepal’s sustained attractiveness as a global tourist destination, even as overseas migration among Nepali citizens remains high due to work and study prospects abroad.
