Nepal’s tourism and hospitality sector is set to witness a major international breakthrough as globally renowned hospitality group Accor prepares to introduce its modern lifestyle hotel brand TRIBE in Kathmandu’s Budhanilkantha area. The project, named TRIBE Kathmandu Budhanilkantha, will mark the brand’s debut not only in Nepal but across South Asia.

The hotel will be developed through a partnership between Hotel Sabrina Limited and Accor under a formal management agreement. The official signing ceremony between representatives of Hotel Sabrina Limited and the TRIBE brand has already been completed in the presence of senior officials from both groups, marking a significant milestone for Nepal’s growing hospitality industry.

Scheduled to open in 2029, TRIBE Kathmandu Budhanilkantha is expected to introduce a fresh, contemporary, and design-led hospitality experience to Nepal, targeting modern travelers, digital nomads, long-stay guests, and experience-driven tourists.

The project is being led by Hotel Sabrina Limited Chairman Nirajan Thapa, who described tourism as the strongest foundation for Nepal’s economic development. According to him, Nepal possesses enormous untapped tourism potential, and international-standard hospitality infrastructure is essential to fully capitalize on it.

“Nepal is blessed with natural beauty, mountains, culture, spirituality, and heritage that attract travelers from around the world. Tourism has the potential to transform the country’s economy if we can provide world-class hospitality services and infrastructure. That is the vision behind bringing an international brand like TRIBE to Nepal,” Thapa said.

He stated that global tourism trends have evolved significantly in recent years, with travelers increasingly seeking meaningful experiences rather than simply accommodation. According to him, modern travelers prioritize design, comfort, social interaction, local culture, flexibility, and lifestyle-driven environments — qualities that define the TRIBE brand.

Thapa also emphasized that his team is not new to the hospitality business and already has experience in hotel operations and management.

“We already have experience operating hotels. Our local team is highly experienced, and the international team supporting this project is equally strong. With the expertise of Accor and the commitment of our management team, we are confident that this project will deliver exceptional results,” he said.

He further noted that TRIBE Kathmandu Budhanilkantha is envisioned not merely as a hotel, but as a landmark lifestyle destination in Kathmandu where guests can enjoy international hospitality standards combined with community engagement, social experiences, and modern urban comfort.

Hotel Sabrina Limited directors Smriti Balikhe and Sanjita Gurung Thapa also stressed that tourism remains the long-term backbone of Nepal’s economic future.

Director Smriti Balikhe said Nepal’s tourism sector requires greater private-sector investment to unlock its full global potential.

“Tourism can generate employment, attract foreign currency, and strengthen Nepal’s international identity. We believe tourism is one of the most sustainable drivers of economic growth, which is why we are continuing to expand our investment in this sector,” she said.

She added that Nepal must now focus not only on increasing tourist arrivals but also on improving the quality of tourism services and experiences.

“The future of tourism is not just about numbers. It is about creating memorable experiences that encourage visitors to stay longer and engage more deeply with the destination,” she added.

Similarly, Director Sanjita Gurung Thapa stated that the expectations of international travelers have changed dramatically over the years.

“Today’s travelers are looking for more than just a hotel room. They seek experiences that combine design, comfort, culture, food, social spaces, wellness, and digital convenience in one destination. TRIBE perfectly reflects the preferences of this new generation of global travelers,” she said.

Once completed, the hotel will feature more than 100 modern guest rooms along with an all-day dining restaurant, specialty dining venue, signature bar, swimming pool, spa, fitness center, and approximately 800 square meters of event and meeting space.

The choice of Budhanilkantha as the project location is also considered strategically important. The area has increasingly emerged as one of Kathmandu’s most attractive hospitality destinations due to its peaceful surroundings, greenery, spiritual atmosphere, and proximity to key landmarks such as Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Shivapuri National Park.

Industry observers believe the hotel will particularly appeal to wellness travelers, digital nomads, spiritual tourists, and long-stay international visitors looking for a quieter and more lifestyle-oriented alternative to Kathmandu’s busier commercial districts.

Globally, Accor is regarded as one of the world’s leading hospitality groups, operating thousands of hotels across luxury, premium, midscale, and economy segments through numerous internationally recognized brands. The arrival of a globally established lifestyle brand like TRIBE in Nepal is therefore being viewed as a highly positive development for the country’s tourism industry.

Industry experts believe the entry of such international brands will strengthen global confidence in Nepal, attract further foreign investment, and elevate the standards of Nepal’s hospitality sector to a new level.

The arrival of TRIBE is also expected to position Kathmandu as an emerging lifestyle and leisure destination within South Asia’s rapidly growing tourism market.

Bringing such a prestigious international hospitality brand into Nepal is widely considered a remarkable achievement for Chairman Nirajan Thapa and his team. Their efforts to attract international investment and globally recognized hospitality brands into Nepal are being appreciated within tourism and business circles alike.

As Nepal continues to see rising interest in adventure tourism, wellness tourism, spiritual travel, and remote-working lifestyles, international hospitality groups are increasingly turning their attention toward the country. In that context, TRIBE Kathmandu Budhanilkantha is being viewed as one of Nepal’s most ambitious and forward-looking hospitality developments.

Concluding his remarks, Chairman Nirajan Thapa stated that investment in quality tourism infrastructure can play a transformative role in Nepal’s economic future.

“We are not simply building a hotel. We are building confidence in Nepal’s tourism future,” he said.
