Kathmandu,Bimala Shrestha is a dedicated social worker and community leader from Ratnanagar–2, Tandi, Chitwan, Nepal, widely recognized for her sustained contributions to social welfare, child care, and community empowerment. Born in Kolkata, India, she holds Nepalese nationality and has devoted a significant part of her life to humanitarian service and grassroots social initiatives.
Her work reflects a deep sense of responsibility toward vulnerable members of society, particularly orphaned children, individuals with intellectual disabilities, and elderly citizens in need of support and care.
Bimala Shrestha completed her early education in Kolkata, India, where she earned her School Leaving Certificate (SLC) from Sangha-Mitra Biddhyalaya. She later continued her academic journey in Nepal, obtaining her Intermediate Level (I.L.) from Balkumari College in Chitwan. Further strengthening her educational foundation, she completed her Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from Shahid Smriti Campus, Ratnanagar, Chitwan. Her educational background has played an important role in shaping her commitment to social service and community engagement.
One of her most notable achievements is the establishment of Small Home for Orphan Children (सानो घर) in Ratnanagar–2, Tandi, Chitwan. As the founder of this initiative, Bimala Shrestha has created a compassionate and supportive environment for orphaned and disadvantaged children who lack parental care and social protection. Through this home, she has consistently worked to provide shelter, emotional support, and access to education, enabling these children to grow in a secure and nurturing environment. Her efforts reflect a strong commitment to ensuring that vulnerable children are given opportunities to lead dignified and productive lives.

Beyond her work with orphaned children, Bimala Shrestha has actively contributed to several community-based organizations dedicated to social inclusion and welfare. She previously served as a committee member for the Chitwan branch and later as the Chairperson of the Ratnanagar–Tandi chapter of the Association for the Welfare of Mental Retarded Children. Through this role, she supported initiatives aimed at improving awareness, care, and advocacy for children with intellectual disabilities and their families.
Her leadership is further reflected in her role as Chairperson of Chetana Aama Samuha, a women-led community organization that promotes social awareness, collective responsibility, and community development. Under her involvement, the group has contributed to strengthening local cooperation and encouraging women’s participation in social activities.
In addition, Bimala Shrestha is a lifetime member of the Nepal Red Cross Society, supporting humanitarian activities, community health programs, and emergency response initiatives. She is also a lifetime member of the Helpless Old Welfare Society, reflecting her concern for the welfare, dignity, and care of elderly citizens. Furthermore, she has served as a former member of the Intellectual Disability Parents Union in Chitwan, advocating for the rights and support of families affected by intellectual disabilities.
Through her enduring dedication and leadership in social service, Bimala Shrestha continues to inspire community solidarity and humanitarian values. Her work stands as a testament to compassion, commitment, and the transformative impact of grassroots social engagement.
