Kathmandu ,In a world where global success often leads to personal comfort and distance from one’s roots, Hikmat Thapa has chosen a different path—one defined by responsibility, service, and impact. A senior leader at Africa’s largest industrial conglomerate, the Dangote Group, Thapa is steadily emerging as a prominent social activist with deep commitment to Nepal, particularly the Sudurpaschim region.
Born in Achham and raised along the Karnali River in Kailali, Thapa’s early years were marked by hardship and limited access to opportunities. The values instilled by his father, a teacher, laid the foundation for his belief in education, discipline, and service to society.
Despite facing obstacles—including setbacks in academic pursuits—Thapa remained determined. His journey from rural Nepal to international corporate leadership reflects perseverance, adaptability, and vision.
Thapa’s professional rise within the Dangote Group is well documented. Since joining the organization in 2006, he has held several key leadership roles, contributing to industrial growth across multiple sectors.
However, beyond his corporate achievements, his increasing involvement in social causes has drawn significant attention. Rather than separating business from social responsibility, Thapa has integrated both—using his global position to support grassroots development in Nepal.
Thapa’s role as a social activist becomes most visible during times of national crisis. Following the 2015 earthquake, he played a key role in mobilizing international support through the Aliko Dangote Foundation, contributing to Nepal’s recovery efforts.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he again demonstrated leadership by coordinating the supply of oxygen, ambulances, and mobile blood bank services to remote districts such as Achham, Jumla, and Mugu. These efforts provided essential healthcare support in regions with limited infrastructure.
Beyond emergency response, Thapa has focused on sustainable development initiatives. His contributions include supporting the construction of school buildings, libraries, and laboratories across various districts, helping improve educational access for underprivileged communities.

As a former Treasurer of the Non-Resident Nepali Association, he has also played a crucial role in connecting the Nepali diaspora with development projects at home.
Thapa’s approach to social activism goes beyond short-term aid. He emphasizes long-term solutions that empower communities. His efforts to bring foreign investment into Nepal’s industrial sector reflect a broader vision of economic growth and self-reliance.
Although some initiatives have faced challenges, his commitment to national development remains unwavering.
Despite his growing recognition, Thapa continues to maintain a low public profile. Those close to him describe a person deeply connected to his homeland, often responding immediately when Nepal faces hardship.
He does not seek political power or public attention. Instead, his work is guided by a simple belief: meaningful change comes through consistent action and genuine intent.
Hikmat Thapa’s journey from the banks of the Karnali River to the global stage is inspiring. Yet, it is his dedication to social service that defines his legacy.
As Nepal looks toward inclusive and sustainable development, figures like Thapa offer a powerful example—demonstrating that true success lies not just in personal achievement, but in the positive impact created for society.
In bridging global leadership with local responsibility, Hikmat Thapa continues to prove that one individual, driven by purpose, can make a difference far beyond borders.
