SUDURPASCHIM, Dengue fever continues to spread across Sudurpaschim Province, with nearly 300 cases reported in the past eight months, according to the Health Directorate, Dipayal.A total of 288 cases of dengue infection have been confirmed during the review period. Among the districts, Kailali recorded the highest number with 65 cases, followed by Achham (41 cases) and Kanchanpur (32 cases).
Surprisingly, even mountainous districts have not remained untouched by the mosquito-borne disease. Darchula reported four cases while Bajura confirmed 18 cases. Similarly, Dadeldhura, Doti, Bajhang, and Baitadi together accounted for 88 cases.Vector Control Officer at the Directorate, Hemraj Joshi, cautioned that the risk of transmission remains high from June to October, the peak dengue season in Nepal. He stressed the importance of preventive measures at the community level.
“Local governments and residents must focus on ‘search and destroy’ campaigns to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. This is the most effective way to curb dengue transmission,” Joshi said.
Health officials have advised the public to use mosquito nets, maintain proper sanitation, and avoid water stagnation around homes to minimize risks.
The province has witnessed periodic dengue outbreaks over the past few years, and authorities are on alert to prevent further escalation this season.
