Ms. Shivanee Thapa Basnyat is a leading Nepali broadcast journalist and media personality with nearly two decades of experience at Nepal Television, where she serves as a Senior News Editor and Presenter. Renowned for her articulate presentation, in-depth interviews, and field reporting, she has covered major national and international events including SAARC Summits, Constituent Assembly Elections, and the 2015 earthquake.

A Fellow of the Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies (Hawaii, USA), Ms. Basnyat has moderated and chaired high-level panels at global forums such as the UN Internet Governance Forum, Asia Media Summit, and events by the Asian Broadcasting Union. She has hosted major government and UN events, including the 18th SAARC Summit, the Nepal Investment Summit, and the visit of UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and is the first Nepali woman to earn the AFC Certificate in Football Management. Her contributions to sports administration include serving as Administrator for Women’s Football under the AFC and as Treasurer of ANFA Women’s Football Committee.

Her leadership extends beyond journalism into roles such as Chair of the Public Image Committee at Rotary Club of Baneshwor, Vice President at the Children’s Art Museum, and Public Relations Committee Member for NAWA and Rotary District. She has participated in training programs from UNESCO-IPDC, APTN, Thomson Foundation, and the British Embassy.

Ms. Basnyat has conducted exclusive interviews with global figures, including former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, senior UN officials, and high-level diplomats. Her COVID-19 coverage and diplomatic interviews have been particularly impactful.

As a documentary filmmaker, she has produced films such as “Nepal Earthquake 2015” and “Gleam of Hope”, focusing on resilience, heritage, and community. She has served as a jury member for the ABU Asia Media Awards (2021–2023) and mentor in the British Council’s Women of the World event.

Recipient of the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Medal (2018) and Badge (2023), she has represented Nepal in over a dozen countries. Shivanee continues to inspire through her dedication to truth, dialogue, and public service, standing as a powerful advocate for informed communication and community empowerment.
