Mr. Moinuddin Ahmed, born on July 25, 1970, in Dhaka, was raised in a traditional Muslim household where photography was more than a hobby it was a family legacy. Childhood for Moinuddin meant exploring old cameras, observing the magic of darkrooms, and absorbing the visual storytelling skills of his elders.

The creative environment continued to expand when a younger uncle began publishing a weekly magazine in the 1980s. This environment shaped Moinuddin’s early inclination not only toward photography but particularly toward photojournalism, where storytelling and truth converge.

Though he initially ventured into photojournalism during his student years, he paused his pursuits to concentrate on academics. However, his passion for photography remained constant. Under the mentorship of seasoned photojournalist Sharif Khan, Moinuddin formally re-entered the field, joining the sports magazine Kriralok. After two formative years there, in 1988, he was recruited by Mrs. Saju Hosein, Chairperson of The New Nation the oldest English-language daily in Bangladesh. This marked the beginning of a distinguished career, where Mr. Ahmed now serves as Chief Photojournalist.

To further enhance his expertise, he completed a Diploma in Photojournalism from the South Asia Photography Institute in 2013. Over the years, his dedication, keen eye, and journalistic integrity have earned him numerous accolades. These include the Best Photojournalist of the Year Award (2017) from Abasan News24.com, the Bandhu Mahal Donor Society Media Honorary Memorial (2021), and the Tobacco Control Movement Media Award (2022) from the Dhunik Organization. Most recently, during the 2024–2025 commemoration of the Student People’s Uprising, he was honored with the Brave/Injured Journalist Award and Certificate from the Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

His professional work has also extended beyond national borders. For sports assignments, Mr. Ahmed has traveled to Bhutan, Thailand, and Dubai, and for other journalistic pursuits, he has visited over ten countries, including Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

In addition to his fieldwork, Mr. Ahmed has contributed actively to the professional community. As an executive member and finance editor of the Bangladesh Photojournalist Association, he has played a significant role in advancing the field. He has also served twice as convener of the Ruposhi Bangla Photo Competition and Exhibition, an event that highlights Bangladesh’s cultural richness through photography.

His work has gained recognition internationally as well. In Nepal, he was honored with the Third National Nepal Live Photojournalism Award, presented by then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Mr. Ishwar Pokhrel, at the invitation of the National Forum of Photojournalists (NFPJ). Mr. Moinuddin Ahmed’s journey is one of deep-rooted passion, perseverance, and purpose. His lifelong commitment to visual storytelling continues to leave a lasting impact on Bangladesh’s media landscape.
