KATHMANDU, Chitwan National Park is set to resume jeep safaris ahead of the Dashain festival, which had been suspended since mid-July due to the monsoon season. Safaris were halted as heavy rains damaged jungle tracks, swollen streams caused flash floods, and fallen trees obstructed roads, posing risks to visitors.

According to Chief Conservation Officer Dr. Ganesh Pant, commercial jeep safaris will likely be permitted from October 12 or 13 (Fulpati). Registration of jeeps has already begun, with only previously operated jeeps being renewed this year. Those in poor condition have been asked to undergo maintenance before renewal.

The park had begun repairing tracks and clearing bushes last month in preparation for reopening. Last year, jeeps operating from Sauraha (32), Kasara (16), Meghauli (9), Ujjoli (2), Amaltari (5), and Madi (1) were active in offering jungle safaris inside the park.
