KATHMANDU, An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale struck Bajhang district late Tuesday night, according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center.

The tremor occurred at 1:08 a.m. with its epicenter located in Dantola area of Bajhang. The late-night quake caused panic among local residents, though no casualties or property damage have been reported so far, police said.

The tremor was felt in neighboring districts as well.

Earlier this month, Nepal recorded two other moderate quakes — a 4.0-magnitude quake in Ramechhap’s Bhatauli on October 10, and a 4.6-magnitude quake with its epicenter in the border area between Rukum East and Baglung on October 1.

Experts have reiterated that Nepal lies in a seismically active zone, making such tremors a frequent occurrence across the country.
